Alzheimer?s Association Announces July Classes In Denison, Sherman, Gainesville and Bonham

On Thursday, July 9, 2009, Dianna Niemann-Harris, Manager of Family Services of the Alzheimer's Association Texoma Office will offer a specialized training class on how to live with Alzheimer's. This class is designed for families providing care to loved ones with dementia and is equally appropriate for paid caregivers who work with AD and related memory loss. The six hour training covers physical care, dealing with problem behaviors, ways to communicate effectively, how to help insure the safety of a person with memory problems, and caring for the caregiver.
"This class is a great overview of Alzheimer's Disease with advice from actual family caregivers of how they handle behavior issues, meals, outings and more," said Niemann-Harris. "Anyone who cares for someone with dementia can benefit from this class and the discussion which takes place among participants," she also commented.
The July 9 Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Class is from 9am to 3pm in the Chapel at Reba McEntire Rehabilitation Center, 1200 Reba McEntire Lane, Denison, TX . Relatives of persons with Alzheimer?s or related dementias attend the class at no charge. If space allows, professional caregivers may attend for a $25 fee. Morning snacks and lunch will be provided. This class will also be offered in Bonham during the month of August, date to be announced. Registration is required for the July 9 caregiver class to insure ample materials and meals. A one hour presentation on Communication and Persons with Dementia will be offered during July in Cooke, Fannin and Grayson Counties. This workshop focuses on the difficulties some persons with Alzheimer?s have conveying their thoughts and how caregivers, relatives and friends can make communication easier. Communicating With Alzheimer?s will be offered by Manager of Family Services Dianna Niemann-Harris
